Site description

This neutral grassland on Celyn park in Carmel is one of  our naturally diverse sites. These naturally diverse sites already have a bank of wildflower seeds in the soil. By putting these sites under the correct management allows these wildflowers to flourish.

During the summer months you should be able to spot some of the following species.

Spring Sandwort
(Sabulina verna)
Wild Thyme
(Thymus serpyllum)
Red campion
(Silene dioica)
Mouse-ear Chickweed
(Cerastium vulgatum)
Mountain Pansy
(Viola lutea)
Lady's Bedstraw
(Galium verum)

Management regime

This wildflower site is be managed through a reduce mow. This consists of one cut and collect a year between August and October. It is essential that cuttings are collected and removed. This reduces fertility and subsequently; the ‘vigour’ of the grasses year on year, which favours the continued establishment of perennial flowering species.
